Lieber Opa Anton,

was hast du nur für einen Ritt hingelegt. Was für ein Leben. Ok, dieses letzte halbe Jahr wäre nicht nötig gewesen. Diese Krankheit, diese Schmerzen, dieser gottverdammte Krebs. Aber was machst du alter Haudegen? Du schlägst gestandenen Rock-, Pop- und Filmstars wie Lemmy, Bowie und Altmann ein Schnippchen, nimmst ihnen geschmeidige 17 Jahre ab und läufst mit 86 ins Ziel. Du Teufelskerl.

Du hattest 85,5 gute Jahre, in denen du nicht eine Tablette genommen hast und nie zum Arzt oder ins Krankenhaus musstest. Wer kann das schon für sich behaupten? Was für ein Segen. Ich hätte dir gewünscht und du hättest es verdient gehabt, wie Udo Jürgens beim Spaziergang einfach umzufallen. Schmerzfrei. Diese Gnade. Aber es sollte nicht sein. Die letzten 6 Monate waren für die Katz. Jetzt hast du es geschafft. Frieden.

Wir wussten von der Schwere deiner Krankheit. Austherapiert. Deswegen wusste ich am Samstagmorgen, als Papa mich zu einer unüblichen und unchristlichen Zeit in der Früh anrief, dass es wohl passiert sein muss. Das erste Klingeln habe ich verschlafen. Das Zweite habe ich wahrgenommen und bewusst ignoriert. Ich wollte nicht ans Telefon gehen. Ich wollte es nicht hören. Den dritten Anruf hintereinander konnte ich dann nicht mehr ignorieren. Ich nahm den Hörer ab und hörte: „Andre, der Opa ist heute Nacht gestorben.“ Fuck.

Klar, der Samstag bestand dann nur aus Heulen und Trauer. Aber für den heutigen Sonntag habe ich mir etwas vorgenommen. Ich habe versucht die Trauer in Dankbarkeit umzuwandeln und es hat ganz gut funktioniert. Die ein oder andere Träne kullert zwar noch runter, aber vorbei an einem Lächeln. Ein Lächeln, welches ich aus Dankbarkeit auf mein Gesicht bekomme. Dankbarkeit darüber, dass du mein Opa warst und wir 36 Jahre lang etwas voneinander hatten. Andere Enkel verlieren ihren Opa früher, viel früher, und einige lernen ihn gar nicht erst kennen. Wir hatten uns so lange. 36 Jahre. Mein ganzes Leben. Ein halbes Leben. Das Leben hat es gut mit uns gemeint. Danke.

Ich kann lächeln weil ich an deine ganzen Geschichten denke und an das, was dich ausgezeichnet und zu diesem großartigen Großvater und Mann gemacht hat. Rückgrat, Selbstlosigkeit und eine echte Macher-Mentalität. Die alte Schule. Die ganz alte Schule. Das warst du. Aber du und deine Generation, ihr konntet ja auch gar nicht anders. Erst der Krieg und danach die Leere. Ihr musstet improvisieren und euch selbst helfen und das hat dich zu einem handwerklichen Universalgenie gemacht. An drei Häusern hast du mit deinen eigenen Händen mitgebaut. Fliesen, Malen, Mauern, Dach. Von unten nach oben. Kein Gewerk, in dem du nicht hättest ausbilden können. Du hast gesägt und gedübelt, was das Zeug hält und wenn es darauf angekommen wäre, dann hättest du aus einer Schachtel Streichhölzer und einem Gummiband von Ommas Einmachgläsern einen vollfunktionstüchtigen Christbaumständer gebastelt. Und das Teil wäre stehen geblieben. Kerzengerade. Bis heilige drei Könige. Du warst der McGuyver des Sauerlands und bist mit einer eingebauten Wasserwaage auf die Welt gekommen.

Ich kann auch lächeln, weil ich mir überlegt habe, wie es wäre, wenn mir jemand einen Vertrag vor die Nase legt und mir garantiert wird, dass ich 85,5 Jahre so gesund und munter bin, wie du es gewesen bist. Ich würde sofort unterschreiben. Du hattest deine Zeit und du hast sie genutzt. Ob auf irgendeiner Baustelle, mit dem Schützenverein bei der Steuben-Parade in New York oder im Führerstand deiner Lok: Wo du warst, war vorne.

Bremsen war eher nicht dein Ding, erst recht nicht bei den vielen Geschichten als Lokführer, die du so gerne erzähltest. Wusstest du eigentlich, dass du mit einer dieser Geschichten meine ersten Albträume ausgelöst hast? Diese eine Geschichte, als dir ein Bussard durch die Scheibe der Lok geflogen ist und du geinnereit und gefedert das Ding zum stehen bringen musstest. Ey, ich habe Nächte lang nicht geschlafen wegen der Bilder in meinem Kopf (aber mir das natürlich nicht anmerken lassen). Ich wollte ja auch stark und ein echter Kerl sein, so wie Papa und du. Eine solche Geschichte würde man einem Kind heutzutage eher nicht erzählen. Zumindest keinem im Alter von 7. Aber kein Problem. Du warst – wie wir alle es sind – auch nur ein Kind deiner Zeit und die Jungs deiner Generation waren einfach aus einem ganz anderen Holz geschnitzt. Als ich 7 war, war Kohl. Als du 7 warst, war Hitler. Also, drauf geschissen.

Opa, du Mann. Du moralische Instanz. Als du Oma kennengelernt hast, gab es keine Handys. Nicht mal ein Fahrrad hattest du. Also bist du jeden Tag, jeden gottverdammten Tag, 8 Kilometer ins nächste Dorf gelaufen um das Mädchen, in das du verliebt warst, lächeln zu sehen. Und dann wieder 8 Kilometer zurück, du Teufelskerl. Ihr hattet doch alles. Wir haben ja nichts. Wir verschicken nur Smileys.

Letzten Juni wurde mir das Privileg zuteil die Diamanthochzeit von dir und Oma zu erleben. 60 Jahre Ehe, du Teufelskerl. Auch ihr hattet eure Krisen und Täler. Aber kaputtes wird nicht weggeschmissen. Kaputtes wird repariert. Übrig gebliebenes essen wird nicht entsorgt, sondern versorgt am Tag darauf. Du hast das immer „adliges Essen“ genannt: „Dat is van Gestern.“ Sei froh, dass du nicht erleben musst, wie Menschen heutzutage so sind. Obwohl du immer nah am Heute sein wolltest. Als Handys irgendwann die Welt eroberten, wolltest du auch eines haben. Wenn die jungen Leute das haben und machen, dann warst du Feuer und Flamme. Auch wenn dein Handy nur zwei Mal im Jahr geklingelt hat. Dabei erreichbar sein ist alles.

Und selbst am Ende hast du dich geweigert vom Leben Abstand zu nehmen. Dein Glas war immer halb voll und du – für dich – nie alt. So hast du, als man dir beim ersten Krankenhausaufenthalt im Spätsommer einen 75-jährigen in das Doppelzimmer gesellte, gesagt: „Jetz ham se mir auch noch son alten Oppa hier reingerollt.“ Du selbst warst da bereits 85, du Teufelskerl. Dein Verständnis für das Krankenhauspersonal endete jedoch, als die Krankenschwester sich geweigert hat dir nach dem Abendbrot ein Schnäpschen zu bringen. Und als der Mann, der die Chuzpe hat im Krankenhaus bei der Schwester einen Schnaps zu ordern, behalte ich dich in Erinnerung.

Es war sehr schön und so gut, dass wir uns Weihnachten noch sehen konnten und du nach Hause gekommen bist. Das war dir wichtig. Das hast du dir gewünscht. Nach all den Eskapaden und den wilden bzw. durchzechten Nächten, war es einer der intimsten Momente meines Lebens, die Hand eines lieben Menschen zu halten, aus dem langsam das Leben entweicht. Ich hoffe, dass ich dir ein bisschen Kraft geben konnte, für die letzten paar Meter.

Ich selbst sitze hier gerade in einer Zwickmühle fest. Bin ich doch ausgetreten und ungläubig, so wünsche ich dir von Herzen, das dir irgendjemand irgendwo ein neues Zuhause gibt. Und während ich so darüber nachdenke, muss ich schon wieder lächeln. Ich stelle mir gerade vor wie du, lieber Opa, ins Paradies kommst und das Paradies gibt es ja seit gut 2000 Jahren. Ich traue dir nämlich absolut zu, dass du direkt frischen Kleister anrührst und anfängst die olle Bude neu zu tapezieren, du Teufelskerl!

Pass auf, wir machen das so. Wenn du den Mann mit dem weißen Rauschebart triffst, dann schickt mir ein Zeichen. Gerne so um die 30 und auf High Heels.
